Pantone named “Living Coral” as the color of the year for 2019, and immediately I’m lifted away to tropical prints, warm sunny days and cucumber beverages by the beach… then I realize it is instead a dreary January day and coral somehow loses my interest – at least until I find my way to Mexico the last weekend in March!
That being said, I haven’t steered far from 2019’s couleur de l’année, having been drawn to coral’s [distant] cousin as my obsession of the moment – copper. A complete copper, turmeric, praline feen. Perhaps it’s due to my recent change in hair color, but I’m now drawn to warm clay tones mixed with deep berry and paired with my year round staples – black and white. Pulling together some of my post-Christmas purchases and wardrobe classics, here’s how I’m curating my closet’s colors for Q1 – Q2:
Day-To-Night with Copper Accents
Boots + a wrap dress… it’s not ground breaking fashion but rather my go-to look year-round. The chiller months I add a cozy scarf or chunky cardigan with tights, whereas in the summer it’s stacks of bracelets and a straw hat. I love this day-to-night wrap dress; it’s a key item I’ll wear every season from outdoor concerts to London date-nights and everything in between. And I bet you guessed it – I adore the touches of copper in the print as well!
Mixing Patterns and Prints for Daytime
I love buying items I know I will use for years to come, this is especially important for anyone (who like me) is very interested in the slow fashion movement and creating a capsule wardrobe. For my daily errands, I throw on my favorite nude sweater, pairing it with a super soft rust scarf, berry accents, tortoise shell sunnies and the most comfortable leopard flats.
I Dream of Shopping Carts…
As stated I love the concept of a capsule wardrobe and reducing the purchase of items we wear once just for a photograph or vacation. But I’m also only human, and I love fashion. So here are a few color inspired pieces I’m currently salivating over in my shopping cart…
